7 Tips on How to Weather the Storm Take precautionary measures each week or month to build your Emergency/Disaster Plan. Gather in advance the necessary survival gear and supplies to keep you safe during the storm and after the storm. 1 PREPARE FOR PHONE INTERRUPTIONS AND EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS: Be prepared for the possibility of service interruptions. phone lines jammed and people can lose Internet access after electricity is shut down during and after a storm. One way to stay connected is to have a Solar Pack and a Battery Pack on hand to be able to keep your devices charged for Emergency Communication. 2 CREATE OR TEST A DISASTER PLAN For Families-communicate pre and post procedures with family and friends. For Business-communicate pre and post procedures with employees, customer, vendors and business partners. 3 INSURANCE POLICIES/CRITICAL DOCUMENTS Collect copies of Insurance Policies, Medical Documents, Personal Documents and other important documentation, and place them in a waterproof container in your emergency evacuation kit. 4 HOME INVENTORY AND AUTOMOBILES,RV’S Use your Smartphone to take a video and pictures of your personal property to keep as a photographic record. Email the pics and video to yourself so you can have access in case the phone is lost or damaged. 5 SAFEGUARD YOUR PROPERTY Gather Tools and Safety items. Check for potential hazards around the property and secure the property and any outside furniture, or other small objects. This can make a big difference while weathering the storm. 6 IMPORTANT SUPPLIES Consider important supplies: Food (non-perishable), water (enough for 3 days-per person). Remember to pack anything specific to your families needs. Children, nursing mothers and the sick may require more. Good Hygiene and Sanitation practices are key to stop the spread of bacteria and infectious disease. 7 PETS Go ahead and make that conscious effort to consider your pets and their safety. Make a checklist for them, and include it with your checklist. If you choose to travel with your pets to evacuate for a storm, make sure the shelter/hotel will accept pets.
